    I had the yips as a catcher in high school (junior year). Every game was absolute anxiety hell. In one game, the batter fouled a ball back and broke my middle finger. My first thought was: "Thank god I don't have to throw the ball back to the pitcher anymore."

    Where you all go wrong is you do not apply common sense. When you miss a long putt you have an excuse. It was speed, break, and etc. But when you miss a short putt it is for one simple reason. The ball did not start out on it's intended line. There is no excuse. You have a bad stroke. That is when the moment of truth arrives that nobody wants to face up to. The problem is solved by learning how to putt. Almost NOBODY wants to take the time to do that. It is not easy and takes hard work. Things are further confused by timing and by luck. Sometimes timing is there and most times it is not. And some days you are lucky and some days you are not. Then if you happen to use a SBST stroke it is all luck. And if you do not release, you need timing which is rarely there when you want it. You can think it is all brainpower until you are blue in the face. But in the end you have to learn how to putt.

    Here’s the fix: throw at target 20ft away only using your wrists. No body rotation, no arm throw, no stepping into throw. Basically a wrist flick to a target 20ft away. You’ll spin the ball naturally. Realize you don’t need any body to advance ball. Make 10 throws this way. Then add a bit of arm motion but with same wrist flick. Then add body rotation all the while maintaining feeling of just a wrist flick movement. You must spin ball for accurate throws and the wrist flick drill gets a thrower to do just that

    Having been involved with Doc Cohn for about 20 years now, I always appreciate the things that hit my inbox! I have gotten lazy with my pre-shot routine, thinking that the "routine" of it is enough to perform my best. After reviewing this video, I am rededicating myself to "improve" my pre-shot routine by re-considering all elements that I should focus on to "allow" myself to hit more shots as "planned." Thank goodness I have a great pre-putt routine that has helped me to save a lot of shots. Thanks to Doc Cohn for that as well!! Now it is time to return to the ball striking form (and results) that I "know" lies within me.

No matter what position you play this is applicable skill wise. Thank you.

    It’s funny how you can say score doesn’t matter when you are on the course and you need to finish your last three holes with 3 pars. In that case your scores do matter. You know it and no amount of psychological self talk is going to change that. The real question is what causes self sabotage on the course, what is the root cause for missing a one foot putt to win. Is it fear of success, fear of failure or something else. Can that fear be changed or the minds reaction to the situation be changed. Saying the score doesn’t matter until you’re adding up your score at the end is empty, it is almost like crazy talk. You need to clarify my man

    PREGAME ROUTINE (improve ur confidence, confidence, focus, and composure) 1. Get clicked in with your focus; remind yourself of your objectives/strategy/tactics, make sure to focus on the things that are in the moment. 1:40 2. Fuel your confidence 2:00 Think about the reason why you deserve to perform/compete well that day. 3. Do a mental rehearsal. 2:25 4. Trust in your skills. 3:11 5. Embrace the butterflies 3:37 . Tell yourself that's "it's okay, that's my body getting ready to execute." "Consistent mental preparation=consistent performance"

    I was good at sport at school but loathed sport with a passion. I was pushed into being on teams so pushed back the best way I could...I never gave more than 70%. This used to frustrate the hell out of my coaches especially when scouts where watching when I made a point of performing particularly badly. I only ever wanted to be a lawyer which is what I became.

    This video helped me so much in the season I'm in where I am deciding to switch from one sport to another. I have loved and ran track for almost 2 decades, but as soon as I touched a volleyball, I instantly fell in love. I have been having this conflicting feeling between the two sports, but I know my heart is crying out for volleyball. You have helped me make my decision. God bless you sir! May you continue to guide people to making sound athletic decisions. 🙏

    How can I help my 13 year old son? He plays basketball. His natural demeanor is quiet and closed (sitting crouched over with arms crossed on lap, shoulders forward) He brings this same low energy to the basketball game on & off the court. He is nervous, doesn’t want to mess up and looks unconfident and his coach doesn’t play him. How can I encourage him to ‘flip the switch’ into competition mode?

    • @PeakPerformanceSports
      @PeakPerformanceSports 4 місяці тому

      He has to start by not caring about what others think if he messes up. He's playing it safe due to fear of failure. See our recent video.
